Greenland Nunataks Project
A new landscape is emerging in Greenland as glaciers retreat and previously ice-covered land becomes exposed. The Greenland Nunataks Project is dedicated to exploring, climbing, and documenting nunataks—rocky peaks that protrude through the ice—along the margins of the Greenland Ice Cap, with a primary focus on southern Greenland.
Many of these nunataks have never been visited or climbed. The goal of the project is to identify and reach these newly exposed formations in order to document their current condition through geographical data, scientific observations, and photographic records. As climate-driven changes continue to reveal new land, the project seeks to systematically explore and record these emerging areas through ski expeditions across the interior of the ice cap.
This is an open and ongoing project, carried out through expeditions organized in collaboration with the Greenland Exploration Network (Greenland.net). All collected information, including images, routes, and observations, will be published in an open-access database, contributing to a long-term record of a rapidly changing environment and supporting future scientific, environmental, and exploratory research.
