ABOUT ME

Polar Explorer
Ramón is one of the most important polar explorers of our time, known for his truly unique expeditions, his deep Inuit knowledge and roots, and his visionary innovations that blend tradition with technology.

Visionary Innovator
With over 25 years dedicated to developing the Inuit WindSled concept—the world’s first zero-emissions polar vehicle—Ramón has worked entirely on his own on a concept that was not fully understood even among fellow explorers and the polar community until very recently.

Leader and Promoter of Polar Scientific Programmes
Although not a scientist, Ramón has consistently supported scientific research in the Polar Regions. Through his WindSled invention, he has helped implement it as a scientific platform in some of the most remote corners of Greenland and Antarctica.

Polar Entrepreneur
For nearly 30 years, he has been the founder and CEO of Tasermiut South Greenland Expeditions, a pioneering logistics and ecotourism company in South Greenland and Tierras Polares, a specialised travel agency in Polar Regions.

Conservationist and Environmentalist
His deep respect for Arctic nature and its people has led him to support projects focused on preserving the dogsled way of life, as well as raising awareness—through public speaking and media—about the need to protect Arctic ecosystems.

Analyst of the Polar Regions and Their Future
His extensive 40-year career across the Arctic has given him a profound understanding of Arctic realities and development. His long-standing interest and concern for the future of the regions he has witnessed transform make him a unique analyst of Arctic change and perspectives.
THE CIRCUMPOLAR EXPEDITION (1990–1993)
The Circumpolar Expedition (1990–1993) accomplished a 14,000 km journey by kayak and traditional Inuit dogsled, traveling from southern Greenland to southern Alaska and visiting most of the Inuit communities in the world. During the three years of continuous life in the North, half of the time was spent physically traveling and the other half living in small Arctic communities. This extraordinary expedition was carried out without any modern technology—no GPS, no satellite phone—making it the last great classic Arctic expedition before the technological era.
The invention of the Inuit Windsled and all subsequent polar projects cannot be understood without this foundational expedition.
RAMÓN LARRAMENDI PROJECTS
Inuit WindSled
The project focuses on the invention, development, and refinement of the first wind-powered vehicle capable of traveling across the polar plateaus of Greenland and Antarctica with completely zero emissions, combining Inuit traditions with advanced technology.
Inuit WindSled Greenland Expeditions
A project aimed at developing an annual zero-emissions research route across the northern Greenland Ice Cap, enabling continuous monitoring of the transformations taking place in one of the planet’s most sensitive and critical regions.
Inuit WindSled Antarctic Expeditions
A project whose main goal is to establish a regular zero-emissions research route within the Spanish Antarctic Program, allowing scientific data collection while crossing the most inaccessible region of the Antarctic continent.
Greenland Electric Challenge
A project designed to explore the potential of using solar-powered electric vehicles to carry out autonomous, zero-emissions exploration in the Arctic and Antarctica.
Greenland Qimusseq Patrol
A project focused on developing a traditional dog-sledding route along the entire west coast of Greenland, with the goal of raising awareness and contributing to the preservation of Greenland’s dog-sledding culture.
Greenland Nunataks Project.
A project dedicated to exploring, climbing, and documenting all the nunataks located along the margins of the Greenland Ice Cap, with the aim of creating a geographical and photographic record of regions that are rapidly changing.
